Have just one day to cover Pondicherry and fretting over the itenary. Here you go with some handy tips and budget ideas:
When to visit: Any weekend/weekday is good to explore this destination. It is 2 hrs drive from Chennai by road. You can continue to stay in Chennai and just go on a day’s trip to Pondicherry..If looking for the best time to visit, then go for October/November so that it is pleasant in the city. Other months are quite hot to handle (literally:(..)
What all to see: White town, temples, Raj Bhavan, Promenade Beach, Aurbindo Ashram, Auroville, Maitri Mandir, St. Basilllica Church are some of the main attractions
What to shop: You can shop a lot in Pondicherry – there is a Hidesign factory outlet. So, if you are fond of bags, you can take your pick here. There are also local handicraft shops where you can pick up perfumed candles, wooden handicraft stuff etc. If you like to pick up comfy clothes, then street shops are plenty in this area. You can pick up trinkets as well if that is your forte…
Where all to eat: The place has multi-cuisines to choose from. You can go for South Indian Thali at Satguru restaurant in White town or explore French and Italian stuff in some of the popular cafe’s in and around the beaches
What to carry: Carry an umbrella, water bottle, cap, sun glasses, good walking shoes
